Team Building for Charity

20/05/19 11:00

The idea of combining practical team building activities with a charitable cause is one that comes up frequently across a broad spectrum of our clients. It’s a lovely notion, building team cohesion whilst working on a great cause together could improve your team’s performance at the same time as addressing corporate social responsibility commitments – two birds with one stone!

Client ideas often include picking litter, building bikes, painting fences and planting trees. It sounds like a wholesome way to spend an afternoon after a morning meeting BUT there are a few very real challenges for organisers to consider.

Don’t underestimate the importance of “Fun” – Using Team Building Activities to Identify Skills Needs

13/05/19 11:00

Apparently, Summer is nearly here.  Not the “fake Summer” we get during the Easter Bank holiday,  but the real one – June through to September.

Typically, these are very busy months for businesses like ours because we are working hard to deliver all sorts of Team Building events for organisations all over the Country.  Activities like our “Soapbox Derby”, “Junkyard Challenge” or “All Manor of Mystery” are popular during the Summer because many employers feel that this is a good time to reward and recognise the hard work of their workforce and strengthen team dynamics.

5 Top Tips for getting more from your next Team Profiling Workshop

08/05/19 15:47

Don't just put your reports in the top drawer and move on - expect more from your next team profiling session - here's how..

Myers Briggs Type Indicator is one of many profiling tools applicable to team development in the marketplace.

Amongst others I have worked with Everything DiSC, SDI, Insights Discovery and Belbin Team Roles when designing and delivering team workshops for clients.

All of these reports provide insight into your team’s dynamic but too often organisations’ investment of time and money in profiling sessions is lost when the reports are popped in the top drawer and not acted upon.

Here are my 5 top tips for making the most out of your next team profiling workshop.

Make the time to build a better team

29/04/19 11:00

Time and again I hear the words “we are too busy” and “we don’t have the time for a team building activity”, but why are we all so busy and why don’t we have the time?

Has business changed so much in the 20 years since EML Team started trading?

The unhelpful answer is yes and no. No one can reasonably argue that there hasn’t been mind bending change in how we consume information and how we communicate with one another.

Tailored Team Building for the McCain family in Hull

23/04/19 11:00

Client brief: A half day team building activity for 100 staff members from all levels across one division of McCains. The afternoon session would follow on from a morning of business presentations delivered by the division’s Senior Leadership Team.

The client had already booked the venue themselves close to their base in Hull, in this case it was the Hallmark Hotel.

As the team offsite was taking the place during the UK springtime, the weather couldn’t be counted on and as such the chosen team building activity needed to be delivered entirely indoors.

“Team building works” – pass it on. The dangers of Chinese whispers in your organisation.

EML Team recently ran a team building workshop for a client who were looking to take a longer-term approach to the development of their teams.

The client’s management team of 20 were well developed, the business was over 20 years old with some 14,000 employees and a highly experienced inhouse HRD team. With such an experienced inhouse HRD team it is always a challenge for our consultants to suggest fresh ways to enable them to achieve their desired learning objectives from their conferences or team meetings. But we are always up for a challenge!

Multinational and Multilingual Team Building and Team Development Workshop

08/04/19 11:00

EML was recently asked to provide an MBTI team building workshop for a UK senior team. The client was exacting in their expectations for the workshop. The tone had to be right, the level of MBTI theory had to be reconciled with a high level of existing MBTI knowledge within such an experienced team and the focus of the workshop needed to be on outcomes. Fun was important but only a part of the equation.

From the design and delivery of fun, engaging team building events, through to tailor made training and development, we are always passionate about supporting the skills development of our Clients' workforce.

We also appreciate that the Apprenticeship programme can be a valuable tool in recruiting staff to an organisation as well as offering a great way to "up-skill" existing employees, and give people an opportunity to gain a recognised qualification while they work.

Do you need hand picked hotels for your team offsite?

25/03/19 10:21

Occasionally members of the EML Team need to check out venues and hotels from a customer point of view. When clients come to us with team offsite enquires and requests for suitable meeting and team building venues it’s imperative that our Consultants recommend only the best options.  When the superb Handpicked Hotels very kindly offered EML Director Jon Huggett the opportunity to stay at both Stanbrook Abbey in the lovely Worcestershire countryside and Bailbrook House in the historic City of Bath he jumped at the chance.

Here’s what happened...

The Art of Creating a Great Team

18/03/19 10:30

We are often asked for a creative and meaningful indoor session for 2 to 3 hours to be held in the main conference room.

When our consultants speak to clients on the phone to discuss the event we usually find that activities such as our Art Factory are mentioned, though sometimes with a certain amount of trepidation on the clients behalf because “they can’t draw”…!
