Innovating To Hit The Target - Conference Team Building

Construction Challenge

Collaborating with the client we decided to base the team building solution on our Construction Project format. Rather than have 40 teams design and build one of our more typical devices such as cranes, catapults or bridges we tailored the activity to build ‘football free-kick machines’.

Guide To Team Building Activities With Purpose

Required Specifications:

Client:          Southampton FC

Location:      St Marys Stadium, Southampton

Numbers:     360 in 40 teams

Duration:      60 minutes

Purpose:

A bespoke team building activity needed to be aligned with a new Corporate Strategy as agreed by the Senior Leadership Team.

Innovation was identified as a key focus for the organisation; essentially the organisation needed to innovate more with the skills and resources available in order to maximise marginal gains.

The theme of the meeting was Unity i.e. how we can build something and work towards a collective goal by working together and using the skills around the table.

The chosen activity theme needed to be relevant to the 360 employees of a world class football club.

Tailoring:

Collaborating with the client we decided to base the team building solution on our Construction Project format. Rather than have 40 teams design and build one of our more typical devices such as cranes, catapults or bridges we tailored the activity to build ‘football free-kick machines’.

Teams were given limited resources from which to innovate and build a machine that could ‘kick’ a ball to the next table.

Teams were sat around cabaret tables and had to use the skills and talents available to them to overcome what was a challenging, technical brief.

With 40 teams in one large room we liaised with the client’s AV supplier to ensure that the action was projected onto the big screen to maximise engagement.

Success was achieved collectively. If the conference room achieved 20 ‘passes’ the whole room won a prize and so on.

Delivery:

The activity went brilliantly. The 40 teams were issued with resource packs and tailored, branded, briefing documents that contextualised the session for the delegates in terms of the key conference messages of Innovation and Sustainability.

After the 40 teams were briefed by our Professional Host, our Facilitators circled the room engaging with the tables to ensure that they were on task and on schedule.

The finale free kick challenge was highly engaging and energising with the whole room ultimately achieving a great score and earning several collective prizes.

The timings were exactly 60 minutes as per the client’s requirements.

The event team captured lots of photos and videos to share with the client post event.

Outcome:

“Just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and the team yesterday.

Another great delivery and activity. Everyone really enjoyed it!

I’ll look forward to working with you again.”
